About Me

The first camera I can remember owning was a Kodak Brownie.  It was a little rectangular shaped camera with a big round flash on the upper part of the camera body, with a thin little strap you could put around your neck.  I remember getting it for Christmas and I started taking pictures with it right away.  Through the years I have always taken photos, mostly snapshots of situations or scenes that interested me with whatever was available - you could almost see my personal evolution in photography by looking at the cameras I have used.  My photographic journey has taken me from the Brownie to my  Nikon,  but decades later I am still shooting scenes and situations that interest me, perhaps with a tad bit more "technical" capability, but still with the initial wonder that capturing a moment in time brought me  as a child.  I see a photograph almost every where I look and am seldom without camera in hand for fear that I will miss that once in a lifetime shot.  I am self taught through trial and error, research, innovation and emulation.

I photograph everything from architecture to zoo animals - literally A to Z: street scenes and landscapes, cityscapes and flowers, rhinos and butterflies.  I suppose if pushed to pick a genre that most appeals to me it would be architectural; the intersection of lines and angles, the textures of steel and brick, the shadows cast by urban monoliths in concrete canyons  make for some of my most interesting photos.  But then again, nature provides such lush and beautiful colors that I often think this genre is what I love most of all.  I guess since I live in Chicago and have a place in Northwestern Michigan the vibrant urban environment and the peaceful wooded enclave both give me inspiration.  And while I have only seriously taken up photography in the last couple of years, it has always been in my DNA.  My father dabbled in photography and I like to think he would be happy that I have followed in his footsteps.

I am a member of the Chicago Artist Coalition, National Press Photographers Association, The Professional Photographers of America and the Photographic Society of America.  I have exhibited at the Carlos Jimenez Gallery and Galleria 1712 in Wicker Park - Chicago, Idlewild, Michigan and the Charles H Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit Michigan .  I have been published in Capture My Chicago and Dreamtown;  I was also the featured cover art on the book Home Sweet Sanctuary: Idlewild Families Celebrate a Century by Dr. Gloria House and on the front page of Heritage Magazine which is a national magazine published by the US Department of the Interior for the National Park system.

As a Chicago photographer, I specialize in Event, Fine Art, Commercial, Real Estate, Children's Portraiture and Model and Actor Head shots photography.
